What’s this all about, then?

Who are we?

We are a small group of knitters living in The Netherlands wishing for a strong and united fiber arts community in Europe. We’ve seen the festivals, courses and events in the U.S. and England and would like to create a more tightly-knit network here on this side of the pond.

What’s actually going on in Europe right now in the fiber arts?

Much more, in fact, than appears at first. There are some fabulous designers, spinners and dyers here who are maybe not terribly well-known outside their own countries. Many courses and events are on offer all throughout the continent, but the diffusion of information is still hazy. We want to address that!

So what do you have to offer me?

First and foremost, we’re going to address the situation in our home of the Netherlands. We have some fabulous talent here that we would like to see utilised! We’re starting with a series of workshops on a small scale but plan on building up to at least one workshop on offer per month, using both local and international teachers.

Secondly, the EFN will become a gathering spot of information. What courses are on offer in Paris? Are there any independent dyers in Vienna? Can I find a local yarn shop in Salamanca?

Okay, but I don’t live in the Netherlands, what can I get from it?

Perhaps you’re a North American who plans on stopping in Amsterdam for a few days and would like to see what classes are on, or what yarn shops are available. Or you’re hoping to travel to Sweden for two weeks and would hate to miss that fabulous spinning class. We’ll give you the information you need to plan your fibery vacation.

Will you offer anything other than classes or a database?

Yes, of course. We’ve already begun the year with a field trip to an independent spinnery in Belgium and a book launch for our most famous local designer. We will make regular outings to explore the fiber resources in the Netherlands. Later, we’ll add a knitting and crochet competition. There will be a lending library to access those out-of-print magazines or hard-to-find knitting books that has just the pattern you want. Stash swaps. And weekend retreats with other fiber enthusiasts.

Sounds good! Where do I sign up?

Well, first of all, we’d like to hear from you. Please leave a comment if you think of something that we haven’t mentioned. And take our survey! We’re just getting started, so would love some feedback. If you want to get on the mailing list, please send an email to:

and we’ll keep you informed as things develop and embark on this exciting journey together!

  2. I love the idea of promoting all things fibre in Europe. This site was pointed out to me by a US friend. I would love to be kept up to date with what is going on throughout the EU.
